How to import data into Maximo using Excel file
You have two ways to import the flat file with the Maximo Integration Framework (MIF). Using the export/import option on the desired application or using an External System to import the file.
I am going to show using the second option, External System. Also, on this example we are going to import Item data.
Resolving the problem
1) You need to prepare the Unicode CSV file. You need to have at least three lines.
The first line is the header. You need to send in this order:
Name of the External System, Name of the Enterprise Service, Action, Language
The second line is the name of the fields.
The third line and the following lines are the values of the fields.
D900,Notebook Computer Test upload,SET1
SPPMP765, SPF343 TRIPLEX PUMP, SET1
2) Go to Integration => Object Structures
Search the Object MXITEM. (I recommend you to duplicate the object and create your own. This example is just to understand what all required steps are.)
Check the field “Support Flat Structure?”.
Observation: If you create your Object Structure with more than one table, after you save this new Object you can have “Alias Conflict”. If you do, this will be indicated by the checkbox “Alias Conflict?”. To fix it, just click on Select Action => Add/Modify Alias. Using this option you can rename the columns with conflict.
3) Go to Integration => External Systems. Search for EXTSYS1.
Enable the external System, as the picture below:
Click on Enterprise Services tab.
Search for MXITEMInterface. Check if the Enterprise Service is enabled.
Click on Data Import button. The data Import screen will pop up.
Select the option “Flat File”. You can check the option “Import Preview” to check if your file has errors.
Browse your file then click on OK button.
If your file does not have any errors the message below will appear.
Repeat the process but now do not check the option Import Preview.
The record(s) will be imported into the item table.
